Hydrogen Sulfide is deadly.  One of the places H2S can occur is when a fire is basically extinguished, but it is still gassing off.
Firefighters are extremely Susceptible to H2S poisoning during overhaul.   This is when the firefighters are standing in and around the extinguished fire, pulling ceilings and walls looking for fire extension.   This is also a hard time to use an Air-Pack so some firefighters remove theirs during this crucial time.
If you are going to remove your face piece during overhaul, make sure you have an H2S meter nearby to protect you against Hydrogen Sulfide Poisoning.  After all, we all want you to go home safe!
These SCOTT H2S meters have been discontinued, but are still new and unused.  Press the Start Key and the meter will operate for 2 years off the battery.   When the battery dies, you dispose of the meter.   You can change the battery, but Scott never offered one because after 2 years, the sensor was spent and it was cheaper to just replace these meters than replace the battery and sensor too.
NOTE these meters were manufactured in 2014, they were never turned on, which doing so sets the clock and starts draining the battery.   Since they are 8 yrs old, your battery life might be less.   I had 14 of them yesterday, I turned one on and it worked great and a customer purchased it..
