After the end of the World War I, Austria’s economy faced a lot of challenges.  The inflation started to happen.
Like in Germany, to bring extra revenues to Austrian cities and villages, most of them recognized the same opportunity and were issuing so-called emergency scripts (notgeld), which were sold to collectors with a premium (markup).  At that time, these notgeld were very popular and widely collected mostly by the Austrian collectors and citizens.
