Description
Offered is this vintage "Playbill" program from the second Broadway run of George Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess", at the Majestic Theatre during the week of February 15, 1942. The show ran for a total of 286 performances, from Jan. 22 through Sept. 26. There is a short "whos-who" of the cast, as well as some brief reports about other Broadway "goings-on" at the time. The program is filled with great local and national ads for products like cars, cosmetics, clothing, cigarettes, whiskey and more, a few of which have a patriotic theme due to the recent US entry into World War II (see left side of main photo) as well as a few for famous restaurants and nightclubs.Unfortunately, the program has gotten wet at some point in the past, so the pages are wrinkled and some have wear, discoloration, etc., but all of the text is readable except for a few words here and there. I see no torn pages and all are well-attached to the cover. There is a crease down the middle where it has been folded.
